SUFFOKATE Interview

SUFFOKATE (USA) combines devastating Death Metal with furios Hardcore. In between you`ll find killing breakdowns and unhuman growling.

Please introduce your bandmembers and the music you play.

Ricky - Vocals
Lars - Drums
Taylor - Guitar
Tesoro - Guitar
Bray - Bass

How long do you know each other?

Lars and Taylor have known each other sings the beginning (started the band with the original vocalist). Bray has been in the band since around Oakland and Ricky and I are the most recent additions. We've known the other dudes for about 2 and a half years. I've known Ricky for about 4-5 years, we hungout before we both joined SUFFOKATE.

What do you think? The music you play… is it rather hardcore? Or rather death metal ?

I think it's a combination of both. All of us enjoy hardcore bands as well as death metal bands and we try to do our best to combine the two together.

You just brought out a new album. Are there any changes to your last one?

It's definitely a more mature sound. We didn't want to write a record that sounded just like the last one, especially after this many years have passed since the last one has been released.

Until a few days ago you guys toured with CARNIFEX and VEIL OF MAYA trough europe. Please tell us something about this tour.

It was amazing. We have been friends with the CARNIFEX guys for awhile now so it was awesome going to europe with them. And we've heard a lot of good things about the VEIL guys so we were stoked to finally meet and tour with them. There were definitely some nights where it could have been better but for the most part it was like a non-stop party with good times.

And will there be another tour? Especially a tour in Germany? ;)

Haha. Hopefully, Germany is in our top favorite places to be in Europe.

How are the dudes of CARNIFEX?

Awesome dudes, good people.

Is there any funny SUFFOKATE tour story?

I don't know about funny to other people but there are definitely some ridiculous ones. Like one of our merch guys passing out in a girls pink taco, haha.

When you`re on such a long tour… how is it ? Do you miss you home? So is there any homesickness?

Definitely. I'm sure anyone in a band can relate to missing the comfort and consistency of being at home. For example, all of us like to shower daily when possible and being on tour definitely prevents that from happening.

Are you happy to be back in the states? Or could you just start a new tour?

We are happy to be at home but are also anxious to start hitting the road again. We are actually going on a California tour with bleeding through, terror, the ghost inside then are going out on our full us headliner with the red shore, and hell followed with, murderdeathkill and king conquer.

What about the HC /Metal-Scene in California? And what do you think about the scene in germany?

It's home to us and the scene in germany is different but not in a bad way. you can tell everyone out there genuinely loves metal music. they're so enthusiastic and stoked that you're there and we are just as excited to be there as well.

What is your ultimate direction as a band? So, what is the biggest aim you want to reach?

just do all we can with what we have and have fun while doing so.

Ricky, which size are your ear plugs?

i think they're 2 and 3/4 inches. but he's always going bigger. i believe he can fit a soda can through it so whatever the dimensions are for that, they're at least that big.
